Meat Cute

Compositing

A romance comedy revolving around between workers from a butcher shop and tailor shop, Meat Cute is a
2d-animated short directed by Wen Tong-Everitt.

My role on this project was Compositing Lead,
with my responsibilities consisting of creating the compositing process, assigning shots to the team,
and compositing shots.

In addition to compositing, I was also assigned to edit the credits and make sure all the credits would fit within the created illustrations.

The full animation may be watched HERE

Process:

Compositing for this student film was done entirely in After Effects. As Composite Lead, I created a guide for compositing detailing hex codes and layer modes to use, along with where to find each setting for those new to compositing. This compositing guide has been used for several other projects, such as Feathers and Fur.

Additional responsibilities included creating presets for the project so that other compositors could import certain effects and keep consistency. One of such presets were the romantic bubbles and sparkles reminiscent of romance animes, affectionately called “yaoi vision”.

Compositors could take this file to add to their assigned shots and either place the animation in front of everything or use just the effects, depending on what was needed.
